Passing and quick play

Post  adwan on Mon Oct 06, 2008 9:40 am

Simple really, we need to be passing a lot more than we do at the moment. Quick simple passes make it a lot more difficult for the opposing team to close us down and win the ball off us.

Players running with the ball will normally lose out to a defender when side by side, this is the ideal time to make that pass. By all means we should run with the ball, draw a defender (or 3) to you but as they get close pass the ball away, there will now be a gap somewhere on the field where the defender(s) should be.

through balls work wonders in this game, they can really be effect when timed right. Keep looking for a player running into space and pass early to beat the offside trap.

As a point, changing the custom tactics seems to make a big difference. So whoever is captain for the game try this - change all settings from Organised to Free Form, the players will run into gaps more easily, and also increase the speed of build-up play.

It's so tough to play a quick passing game at the moment, i think once everyone has established themselves a position, then it will be easy. I think the most important thing is the positions we take up when we don't have the ball, if we are in our correct positions, then it will be easy.

Yeah i'd agree with you. This is more aimed at those players who will just run with the ball rather than pass. I find it really annoying, especially when someone else on the team is in acres of space calling for the ball.

Oh that's another thing, (this is to everyone btw) keep an eye on your team mates. You may notice different hand movements when they call for the ball, try and watch for these. So far I've noticed "arm in the air", which is simply pass to me, "two hands pointing to feet", which is pass to feet, and "arm pointing in forward direction", which is through ball pass. See any of these movments and try and get it to them.

I totally agree,

Midfielders need to find space, for a pass, move more, and pass again,,,,

Pass and move, Pass and move...

And try to get a few more thorugh all passes up to me aswell Very Happy
